Quick Start

To use Biblecrawler, type in a Bible verse or verse range into the “Verses” box. For example, type type Rev 1:1-5. You can use the full name of a biblical book, or any of the commonly recognised abbreviations. BibleCrawler expects either a colon or a full stop after a chapter number, if there is going to be a verse or verse range following. The hyphen (minus sign) must be used between the start verse and end verse in a range. Don’t worry – if BibleCrawler can’t understand your verse reference, a popup box will explain this. Here are examples of valid and invalid verse references

VALID

Genesis 1
Gen 1:1-5
ge 5.5
Gen 5
Gen 1:1; Exod 2:1; Lev 3:1 (verses separated by semicolon)
Gen 1:1-5; Gen 2:1-2 (verse ranges separated by semicolon)
Gen 5:1-99 (even though 99 is not a valid verse number)

INVALID

Gen 5:1- (missing an end verse number)
Gen 5:6,1
Gen 5:6.1
Gen 5:6; Gen 6:1

The underlying Hebrew and Greek texts are morphologically analysed, and searches can be based on this data. Searches can also based on an English word or phrase.

Hovering over a word in the ESV English translation will highlight the corresponding Hebrew or Greek word. This feature also works for the BSB, LEB and KJV translations.

Hovering over a Greek or Hebrew word will highlight the corresponding word in the ESV English translation. Additionally, a popup box will appear which display a summary of key information for that word, including the definition and root word (lemma).

Clicking on a Greek or Hebrew word will display a full page of information about this word, summarising the way the word is used in the Scriptures. Clicking a down-arrow on this page will display all instances of the word.

The default installation of BibleCrawler includes the Core Bibles datafile. This contains three English-language bible translations – the ESV, the BSB and the LEB. ESV is an abbreviation for the English Standard Version. BSB is an abbreviation for the Berean Study Bible version. LEB is an abbreviation for the Lexham English Bible. The default bible is the ESV.

The default Bible can be changed on the Settings page. On the same page, you can also nominate other Bibles to display in parallel with the primary bible (the first bible in the list). Word/phrase searching from the main page of BibleCrawler always uses the primary Bible.

Each new action in BibleCrawler opens up a new tab. The tabs are listed at the bottom (Window and Android) or top (Mac and iOS) of the page. You can close a tab when you are finished with it by clicking on the blue “close” button. You can return to the start page at any time by clicking on the “Start” tab.
